Gina Webley BSc, PhD, PGCE, MNIMH
I am a qualified Medical Herbalist with a clinical practice in West Wickham.
I have a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Herbal Medicine from the University of East London. The degree included 500 hours of supervised clinical practice to obtain core medical skills and ensure competence in diagnosis and physical examinations.
I am a member of The National Institute for Medical Herbalists (NIMH) which is the oldest and largest professional body whose members are governed by a strict code of ethics and practice. Continued professional development is mandatory.
I worked as a research scientist and college lecturer for over thirty years. This included a seven year stint at London Zoo. I then decided to combine that experience in research and teaching with my passion for using herbs in health by training as a Medical Herbalist. I wanted to be able to show others the benefits of herbal medicine that I and my family had experienced. I believe that people should have a real choice about the treatment they receive and the medicines they take.
Throughout my career, I have been fascinated by the connections between human beings and plants and how we have developed plants for medical use.
Our knowledge of the therapeutics properties of plants has developed over thousands of years. Many of the drugs we use today were originally derived from plants. For example, aspirin developed from willow bark and morphine from poppies. It is vital we combine all our previous and current knowledge to provide you with the best treatment available.
Scientific research has confirmed and updated the effectiveness of many traditional plant remedies so an important part of my practice is using such evidence to substantiate the therapeutic benefits of herbs in health.
I passionately advocate a holistic approach so we can look at the body as a whole and consider your physical, physiological and emotional health. We can then look at the person rather than the disease and explore the underlying causes not just the symptoms of illness. The aim of my treatment is to boost your body’s own capacities to maximise your health and wellbeing.
