Why visit a Medical Herbalist?
A Medical Herbalist can treat many of the conditions that you might take to your regular GP. A Medical Herbalist aims to treat the causes as well as the symptoms of the condition. This can produce a more long lasting improvement in health. A Medical Herbalist is trained in diagnostic skills and after an hour long consultation is able to prepare herbal medicine uniquely tailored to your condition. Medical Herbalists prescribe from a wide range of good quality herbs (many not available over the counter) at effective concentrations of up to ten times the strength of the one size fits all of over the counter herbal formulations. Tailor made herbal medicines are safer and more effective.
What happens during a consultation?
Before the consultation, you will be asked to give your general information in a questionnaire. During the consultation you will then be asked detailed questions about your present condition, past medical history, whether you are taking other medications or supplements, family history, diet, lifestyle and the health of other systems of your body. A relevant physical examination may be carried out including blood pressure and pulse. A treatment strategy will then be discussed.
Follow up consultations last 30 -45 min during which improvements in your condition will be assessed and a review taken of the herbal prescription.
When will I receive the herbal medicine?
After the consultation a personal tailored herbal prescription will be developed and prepared in the dispensary. The herbal prescription will be available the next day either for collection, sent by post or hand delivered.
How long will the herbal treatment last?
You should begin to see improvements in your symptoms within the first 2 weeks of treatment but for longer lasting benefits treatment may need to continue for 3 months or more. The length of treatment will depend on what the condition is and how long it has lasted.
Can I obtain repeat prescriptions without a consultation?
Yes, once an effective prescription has been developed repeat prescriptions can be requested by phone, email or text.
Can I take herbal medicine with other medications?
Yes, care will be taken to ensure that the herbs selected in your prescription will not interact with the pharmaceutical drugs you are taking.
